Ubuntu Studio on the macbook
Because I don’t wan to screw up my primary workhorse still running os x, I decided to install Ubuntu on an external disc. When the new system will work perfectly, I’ll then replace my laptop disc by the external one.
On a macbook, you will need to tell EFI that there are non os x systems on your macbook. For that purpose you should first create a small 1GB partition to store the REFIT files on the dedicated drive. Make this partition bootable. Leave the rest of the drive as freespace.
Start your Linux installation and choose the freespace of your external drive to install your partitions. When you have finished your installation, you should boot your macbook using the ALT key. Only your REFIT and traditional OS X partitions will show up. Choose REFIT. Now you can choose between all other systems installed on your drive.
Indamixx
Indamixx is an embedded Linux device designed for music composers/dj’s/vj’s/…
It is based on 64Studio, a (mainly) 64bit realtime Linux distro focussing on mucic creation.
Devices like this will further promote Linux among young people. The most important lesson we should learn about this is that Linux should focus more on the fun/cool stuff.
Check out these cool videos.

Ubuntu studio
I am trying to switch over from os x to ubuntu-studio on my macbook. The reason for that is that Linux has much more to offer for the musician than other platforms.
First there is the low latency kernel. A kernel specially designed to have the lowest latency possible. A low latency operating system is what you need if you want to work with several hard and software interfaces to create realtime multimedia.
Then with have Jack. Jack is a low latency sound daemon connecting real computer generated and midi streams together.
Finally with have tons of applications that enables you to create your dream composing, mixing and recording environment.
More.

BoardFree | Long distance skateboard journeys for charity.
|
In the spring of 2005 Dave Cornthwaite woke up and realised enough was enough. Twenty five years old, stuck in a nine to five with the horrible feeling that life was just one long, straight, endless road. It was time for a change. Dave realised the only thing he looked forward to was the skate in and out of work, so there and then he decided to go on a journey on his board. He had only been skating for two weeks but coupling his oldest passion, travel, with his newest, longboarding, seemed like the most natural thing in the world. As the days went on the plan came together. Eventually one journey turned into two, the first was a 900 mile/ 1450km length of Britain skate from John o’Groats to Land’s End in May 2006, which was intended to be a warm-up for a much bigger push later that year. The second journey was a huge ask, a 4000 mile/ 6300km across Australia from Perth to Brisbane. If successful this Australian journey would become the farthest distance anyone had travelled on any form of skateboard, ever. |
